History and Purpose of Foundation

In the fall of 2020 a volunteer group of community members formed to explore the benefits, challenges, and feasibility of establishing a library foundation. The sole purpose of this foundation would be to financially benefit the Galway Public Library. Original group members were Barbara Germain, Jim Hodsoll, Cate LaBarre, Erik Roy, Dawn Wheeler, and Ardeth Deay.

Over a five month period, this group gathered and shared information from on-line resources and other libraries that had considered and/or established foundations.  A report of their findings was finalized in April 2021. Upon completion of this report and notification to the Library Board of Trustees of the intent to establish the foundation, the group implemented the required processes to establish the Galway Public Library Foundation, Inc. a not-for-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity status.
